Baby: Cheap and Trendy Burp Cloths

If you have a sewing machine and can at least sew a straight line, you can make your own burp cloths and recieving blankets for a percentage of what you'd pay at the store. Plus, you can follow whatever theme your heart desires!
At Walmart, they are bringing back their vast fabric selection with prices that can't be beat. I bought flannel fabric that followed my cowboy theme for only two dollars a yard! With two yards of flannel I was able to sew 8 burp cloths. With another two yards, I made a recieving blanket.

Heres how to make burp cloths:
1 Purchase at least one yard of flannel that follows your theme.
2 Fold the fabric in half so the design is on the inside.

3 Press well with an iron so there are no wrinkles and the fold set.
4 With the fabric still folded, measure out how big you would like them and cut them.
(mine are about 14x8 but vary since i like some larger or smaller)
5 Sew the sides together that aren't the fold using a straight stitch and leave about 3 inches so you can turn it right side out.
6 Turn right side out and press with an iron again.
7 Using a matching thread and a zigzag stitch, sew a border about 1/4 inch in from the edge of the fabric all the way around the cloth.
8 Lastly, using a zigzag stitch again sew a X from corner to corner through the center of the cloth.
You should be left with a nicely padded flannel burb cloth.
For extra padding, add a layer of felt or flannel in the middle before sewing.

Not only will you save money and maybe learn a new skill, you'll also have custom and unique baby items!
